Explode Your Opt-In Lists with Squeeze Pages
By: Shelley Lowery Copyright © 2008

Squeeze pages provide Internet marketers with a highly effective way to build their lists by enabling visitors to request further information. If you have any kind of Internet business, you most likely know that building a list of targeted potential customers is an absolute must.

A squeeze page is a simple page that has one specific purpose - to get your visitor to give you their email address. This page should contain mainly text with very few, if any, graphics - nothing that will take the attention away from the text.

There should be at least one headline with some additional sub-headlines and a subscription box. The text should be no longer than 100 words, and should all fit within the browser window without scrolling. Below the subscription box should be some text that assures your visitors that you will never sell or share their information.

The key to using this technique effectively is to offer your visitors something of value, such as information, a quality ebook, software, video, or audio file in exchange for their email address.

This technique is used both online and offline in many different industries. For example, there are many companies that run contests that require you to visit their web site and enter your email address to see if you've won. There are also companies that will give you a music or software download, which requires you to enter your email address. These are all forms of squeeze page use and they are highly effective.

Following are some guidelines to assist you in creating a high converting squeeze page:

    * You must first ensure that there is a market for what you're offering. If there isn't anyone interested in your market, you will be wasting your time. Make sure you research the market prior to setting up your squeeze page.

    * You must use effective headlines and text that will force your visitors to take action. If you're not confident in your copywriting skills, it is highly recommended that you take some time to educate yourself, or hire a professional.

    * You must ensure that the information you're giving away is of value and of interest to your target market. If it's not, they won't give you their email address.

    * Make sure that you only provide enough information to create curiosity and make them want to learn more. If you provide too much information, there won't be any reason for them to sign up to receive further information.

    * Keep your squeeze page short. The entire message, including the subscription box, should be displayed above the fold, which is within your browser window without scrolling.

    * Create a sense of urgency by telling your visitors that you can't guarantee how long this offer will be available. Or, if after signing up you want them to take a specific action, such as sign up for a membership site, or purchase a product, provide them with a valuable limited time offer just for taking that action. In other words, give them an extra bonus incentive for taking action within a certain amount of time.
    * You must drive a continuous stream of targeted traffic to your squeeze page.

There are many uses for squeeze pages, including marketing affiliate programs. The key to using them effectively, and to get the most out of your list is to set up a follow up autoresponder and continue to follow up with your new subscribers.

If you are providing them with a valuable limited time offer for taking a specific action within a specified amount of time, keep reminding them that they only have so many days left until the offer is gone.

If you're not using squeeze pages to build your opt-in list, you're missing the boat! Squeeze pages are one of the most effective ways to build a list of targeted potential customers.
