What Do I Need in a Web Hosting Package?
    By: Albert Eshbach

If you are buying web hosting for the first time, you may have some questions about what you need and what you don't. There are so many hosts offering so many features that it can be hard to figure things out.

Here are some of the most commonly offered features you'll see and more information about each of them:

    Amount of Web Space

This is definitely an important consideration. A small hosting account might be something like 20MB of space. This is actually more space than many people think it is. To figure out how much space your site will need, simply add the size of each file that will be hosted there. You will often find that even the lower priced hosting plans offer ample space unless your site is very large.

    Data Transfer Rate

The data transfer rate refers to how quickly data can be transferred from one place to another. It is almost always measured in seconds. The faster your data transfer rate, the faster it will be to upload and download data to and from your site. This may or may not be an important issue to you, depending on what you are using your site for.

    Email Accounts

Most web hosting plans come complete with numerous email accounts for your site to use. You might even come across hosts that offer unlimited email accounts. This is handy if you have a business with different departments. You could have different email addresses for your website administrator, owner, sales and so on. Web mail is common with hosting accounts, which allows you to check your email from any computer with Internet access.

    Domain Names

Some web hosts offer a free month of hosting when you buy a domain from them. Others allow you to add on domains to your hosting account which means you can host multiple domains with account. The ability to add sub domains are another feature that you may find offered by many hosts.

Different people have different web hosting needs. It's a good idea to make a list of the must-have features for your hosting and make sure the providers you consider offer those features. You will often find that the hosting world is quite competitive, which definitely makes it a buyers' market. It's easier than ever before to find an affordable host that offers all the features you want and need!

It's always a good idea to compare web hosting packages from several web hosts before you decide to buy a package. A great way to learn exactly what you need in a host is to read the Web Hosting Guidebook, a free 30 plus page report available right now at http://WebsiteHostingDirectory.org/
