    Checking out, finalizing and uploading your website

    Checkout and finalize your webpages

    The final checkout and uploading of your website structure demands the observance of certain protocol. This begins with designing a homepage that employs a webpage layout that loads quickly. From there these same principles should be applied to all the following pages of your website. There are several ways to ensure this;

    Ensure that your webpages upload quickly

    • Keep your homepage short

      Keep your homepage short and to the point. Be sure that the subject of your website theme is clearly evident to your visitors. Provide at least 300 words of text for the search engines to digest.
    • Don't make the images on your homepage any larger than necessary.

      If you need to use a large graphic, cut it into smaller parts and put them into a table. Use graphic software to optimize your website graphics to a reasonable size. Most images can be resized, in a website graphics program, to a smaller file size without loss of quality or impact. Make your images only as large as they absolutely need to be to be for visual clarity in your content and webpage design.
    • Don't include music or videos on your homepage.

      They can be presented much better deeper in your website content. If you want to include music and/or videos on your website, place them on interior pages deeper in your website. Do not put them on the homepage.
    • Define the width and height of all image tags.

      Most browsers will load an image much faster if the image dimensions are given. This provides for quicker download times.
    • Cache your images

      Use the same images for several of your pages. Once these images are downloaded they remain in the browsers cache and appear instantly.

    Finalize your navigation scheme

    When creating your individual webpages be sure to include a Back and Next link where appropriate. Also, employ a common navbar on all of your pages when implementing your website links. Be sure to include a link to your homepage on each page of your site. Don't make your visitors return to your homepage to move around your website.

    Location

    Make sure that your navigation images/text are prominently located when you implement your website navigation so that users won't have to search the page looking for them. Your navigation links should all be in the same general location on every page. If you use buttons, an image map, or other graphic navigation methods, include duplicate text links somewhere on the page for those with text-based browsers.

    Site index

    A large website structure should contain a site index in its navigation plan with website sections, subsections and topics listed for easy access.
