    SEO

The process of making your website easily accessible and relevant to the search engines is referred to as SEO or search engine optimization. It is through the procedure of SEO that you facilitate the search engines in understanding the subject and content of your website. SEO insures that the main focus of your message or website theme is obvious to search crawlers when they scan your site. Also, it provides for the enjoyment of the people who are visiting your website.

    The Search Engine Optimization Process

There are five basic steps in the search engine optimization process. In order to properly optimize your website you need to repeat this procedure on a regular basis. The steps involved in SEO are as follows.

    • Search Engine Submission - Keeping your website up to date ensures that the search engines see your site as active and, more importantly, that it is regularly revised. Both search engines and the people who visit your website are looking for fresh and constantly upgraded content. Routine search engine submission and the addition of new material on a regular basis is critical to the health of your website.

    • Website Optimization - The framework or structure by which you present your website should be clear, well defined and accessible. Search engines attempt to view a website as an organic whole when they determine your ranking in search results. Although certain individual pages of a website can rank better than others its the clarity of your overall website structure that factors into how the search engines see your site.

    • Content Optimization - Imparting solid information through your website is your foremost goal. Your content should be both logical and organized. This type of content structure enables search engines to best perceive the theme and content of your website. Proper content optimization also provides your visitors with a clearer understanding of what you are trying to say.

    • Keyword Research - In order to rank well in organic internet searches you must optimize your webpages to emphasize keywords and phrases that describe the subject matter that you are presenting. Also, you must find the keywords that not only characterize your website content but that also rank well among users who visit websites like yours. This is the role keyword research plays the SEO process.

    • Tracking and Analysis - Tracking and analyzing the effect that the SEO process is having on your web rankings is an on going procedure. You will need to monitor traffic regularly to see what your optimization efforts are accomplishing. By tracking the results you can see what works and what dosen't. Website traffic analysis data also shows trends in your website traffic patterns.

    Summary

Keyword research, website optimization, content optimization, search engine submission and analysis of your tracking data are all important elements in the success of your site. Ranking well in web searches relies on the ability of spiders to comprehend the subject matter contained in your website's content. Therefore, if you are serious about the success of your site it behoves you to maintain a regular program of SEO or search engine optimization.

Often webmasters rely on gimmicks, trickery and meaningless novelties to promote their online brand. This can work in the short run but over time their audience will erode and their online reputation will evaporate. These types of websites gradually fade into the internet background. If you are in for the long haul follow the steps that I have outlined above and your website will become an integral part of the Web.
