The main sections of a website
Website main sections are exactly what the term implies. These are the prime headings or categories that make-up your website. This is the logical organization of the main content areas of your website structure. From here your visitor should be only one click away from the information that they are seeking. If, for example, you are creating a site for a garden center, you would want to make it easy for the visitor to find the right information. Note: This will be the foundation for your navigation scheme
Website main sections and subsectionsYour main website sections form the backbone of your navigation system. These are the links that take your visitors deeper into your website. Select them with care, keeping in mind that your website structure will be shaped by them. Also, these pages should provide one click access to your subsections.Going back to our garden center site above, the subsections under, for example, Vegetable Plants might be the type of plants available or it might be categories of plants. Under the Tools main section, you might find subsections relating to lawn care, tree trimming, etc.
This tier of your website structure (i.e. main sections) is primarily a collection of links that provide access to the main content (i.e. subsections) of the site. Each main section should cover a specific subject or data base which is focused on a single topic. Your website theme should correspond to each main section of your website and it's subsection.

Each section should contain material grouped according to your visitor's needs. These sections should be sizable chunks of related information or website content that can be easily explored.
